Even if you don't always understand what you're looking at, Abbie's enthusiasm is often infectious and it's better than agonizing over your coursework. Any hopes of getting more sleep are quickly dashed when you accept the call. ''"FINALLY, YOU PICK UP!"'' You almost throw your phone across the room, jerking away suddenly as Abbie's voice screams into your ear. There's silence for a few moments, and then she speaks again, audibly (t8n:"fade-right")+(t8n-time:1s)+(link-reveal:"calmer.")[= //"I've been trying to reach you for ages. Did you forget?// You assure her you didn't forget, while trying desperately to remember what it was you didn't forget today. You hear a sigh on the other end. //"The gallery? Marion Faust? It opens today in about 10 minutes, and I'm sitting in my car waiting for you. I don't understand why you lock your bedroom door all the time." // You're about to come to your defense of your paranoid habits when she cuts you off. //"Nope, talk about it in the car, with me, out here, right now. After quickly getting dressed and grabbing some probably-not-expired instant noodles for the drive over, you head out to the car where Abbie is waiting, a scowl on her (t8n:"fade-right")+(t8n-time:1s)+(link-reveal:"face.")[= //"Took you long enough."// She says while you quickly bundle into the little station wagon. Abbie had driven this car for ages before you met her, and it shows. You're always a little apprehensive when you sit down, like the chassis will collapse from the slightest (t8n:"fade-right")+(t8n-time:1s)+(link-reveal:"touch.")[= You two don't talk much during the drive. Abbie is probably still mad at you for sleeping in, and you'd rather not bring the mood down even more by trying to defend yourself. Instead, you take this time to catch up on what you forgot. Namely, who this (t8n-depart:"instant")+(t8n-arrive:"instant")+(t8n-time:1s)[[Marion Faust->Page 6]] is.

"Marion Faust was a prestigious polymath. An entirely unknown figure for most of his career, Faust burst into the artistic scene with a sudden influx of discussion surrounding him. Countless written articles uncovered sing his praises as an expert painter and an expert sculptor, and his ability to make lifelike portrayals of just about anything. These complimentary writings were everywhere for several years as Faust was out in the public eye, up until one day where he suddenly vanished. Panicked newspapers wrote about the famous artist disappearing without a trace. The police were contacted many times, and no evidence ever came up. Eventually, perhaps superstitiously fearing the same fate would happen to them, Marion Faust's work was hidden away and forgotten about. At least, up until now. The museum that's hosting the art showcase is an unassuming building, paint visibly cracking along the outside walls. The city's funding always seems to run out when the museum is concerned. At least it's not sandwiched between two clothing boutiques that use an overwhelming amount of scented air freshener, like your current work situation is. Suddenly, you jump as Abbie's voice cuts through your thoughts. //"You done staring at a building you've seen a dozen times before?// (t8n:"fade-right")+(t8n-time:1s)+(link-reveal:"Come on! We're already late!\"")[= You quickly get out of the car, stretching slightly before hurrying to catch up to Abbie, who's already at the door to the museum. You grumble at her slightly about the rush, but she just rolls her eyes. //"Really? //You// slept in and made us late, but you're complaining to //me// about the hurry?"// That logic quiets your intended retort, and you silently follow her (t8n-depart:"instant")+(t8n-arrive:"instant")[[inside.->Page 8]]

The museum interior unfortunately matches the outside appearance. The paint was peeling, the floorboards were worn, and a thin layer of dust coated the entryway. As you and Abbie quickly and quietly walked up to the front desk, you saw a couple other people milling around, though you assumed most of the visitors today were already inside (t8n:"fade-right")+(t8n-time:1s)+(link-reveal:"the gallery.")[= [<img src="https://www.planesculptors.net/upload/2251/14380/Hector%20Museum%20Guard.full.jpg" alt="**IMAGE DESCRIPTION**" />] Sitting behind the front counter, looking profoundly disinterested with his current assignment, is a security guard with the name "Hector" sloppily scrawled onto his nametag. You're not entirely sure if he's noticed you two yet, but thankfully Abbie does the job before you have to attempt a greeting. //"Hello sir! We're here for the Marion Faust showing. Sorry we're a little late,"// Abbie points her thumb towards you. The guard, Hector, still hasn't looked up. //"Had to drag// this //one out of bed, y'know?"// She frowns at Hector, who has yet to acknowledge you two at all, but as she opens her mouth again he stiffly holds up a hand. //"Tickets."// His voice is surprisingly nowhere as gruff as you expected it to be from his manners. Abbie jumps a little. //"Oh, right! Sorry sir."// She rummages through her purse for a few moments before pulling out two creased and crumpled tickets. //"Here you are!"// She says, placing them in Hector's outstretched hand. Without a word, the guard looks at them for a few moments, then nods. //"Have fun in there."// He says with zero enthusiasm, nodding slightly towards the door. With a quick look and a shrug, you and Abbie head over and (t8n-depart:"instant")+(t8n-arrive:"instant")[[enter the museum.->Page 9]]

The museum is a lot bigger on the inside. Abbie immediately heads off on her own, promising to meet back up at the entrance later. You protest a little, but not really seriously. She's the one who wanted to go here, after all. You can handle yourself without a chaperone, right? Shaking your head, you take a look around your surroundings. The room you're in is just as poorly-maintained as the entrance, albeit bigger. Surprisingly, you don't see anyone else in the room with you, but being that there's no actual art pieces in this room, you don't think much of it. In front of you, there are five hallways, each stretching off in a different direction. This museum is a //LOT// bigger on the inside. Thankfully, each hall has a sign above denoting the section it heads into. Though, you can't begin to guess what exactly the sections are separated by. Time period of Marion Faust's work, maybe? The names don't make much sense either. Regardless of the category system, you decide to head down into... (t8n-depart:"instant")+(t8n-arrive:"instant")[[Community->White]][= (t8n-depart:"instant")+(t8n-arrive:"instant")[[Logic->Blue]][= (t8n-depart:"instant")+(t8n-arrive:"instant")[[Power->Black]][= (t8n-depart:"instant")+(t8n-arrive:"instant")[[Freedom->Red]][= (t8n-depart:"instant")+(t8n-arrive:"instant")[[Growth->Green]][= ... Whatever that means.

You head into the hall closest to you on the left, marked //Community//. You're still not entirely sure what that label entails, but you assume it's meant to be artsy. After a few minutes of walking, down a frankly very uninteresting hallway, you enter a small room with various paintings adorning the intersecting walls. A couple of people are inspecting the paintings, but surprisingly there isn't a crowd. Even with the rundown appearance, you assumed Marion's name would've drawn more art snobs or people like Abbie. Still, you won't complain about the //lack// of a crowd. You decide to enter the next-furthest left doorway, labeled //Logic//. The hallway is very boring, looking much more dilapidated than the other areas of the gallery. You suppose the museum didn't have the funds to renovate //everything// for a relatively unknown artist's showcase. There's also no one else in the hallway, oddly enough. Maybe they weren't interested in logical paintings? That certainly doesn't sound very interesting. Stopping yourself before you follow this tangential thought process, you find yourself in a cramped room with several paintings placed along the walls. Hopefully you'll be proven wrong about what //Logic// has in store. You enter the hallway called //Power//, according to the sign. You kind of like power, after all. Not in an all-consuming, evil way, of course. You're also not sure how paintings can resonate power. Maybe you'll find out? The room you enter eventually doesn't look very powerful. In fact, it looks worse than the rest of the museum. False advertising, really. Still, you're here to look at art, and that's just what you'll do. You enjoy freedom, so you decide to go to the second-to-the-right doorway, titled //Freedom//. This is a gallery name you understand. Art is a great expression of freedom, after all. The area the art is displayed in doesn't look very free. For once, you're glad everyone else is, again, strangely absent. You'd be bumping elbows constantly in here. The doorways to the other sections, and a quick turnaround confirms the one you just exited is gone too. Not only that, there's a new doorway with no sign, leading in a completely different direction. What is going on!? There is still nobody around. Down this new hallway, one that looks decades older than everywhere else in the museum, you eventually find a room. Larger than the other gallery sections, and yet used for the same purpose. You've done it. You looked at them all. Broken free of whatever spell you were under, you quickly scramble back down the hallway you came from, hoping the door leading out is there. When you get back to the main crossroads, the door behind you vanishes and you see a new one going back towards the entrance. This is it! Barely stopping to breathe, you fling the door open and run out... right out into the queue for (t8n:"fade-right")+(t8n-time:1s)+(link-reveal:"visitors.")[= Some of them look concerned at your clear state of panic, others look annoyed. Those others include Hector, the security guard, who gives you a low glare that clearly means "get out." Happy to take that order, you take a few deep breaths and force yourself to walk calmly out of the (t8n:"fade-right")+(t8n-time:1s)+(link-reveal:"museum.")[= The moment your feet touch the pavement outside, you leap into the air in excitement. You got out. Whatever the hell was happening in there, you escaped it. Laughing to yourself, you breathe a sigh of relief and make your way back to (t8n:"fade-right")+(t8n-time:1s)+(link-reveal:"Addie's car.")[= You freeze in your tracks, your blood running cold. Oh, no. Addie's car. It's still here, and she's not. She's still inside the art gallery. She's still inside the shifting art gallery that almost trapped you inside it! You look back towards the museum. There's no way Hector will let you back in, especially since your ticket was already (t8n:"fade-right")+(t8n-time:1s)+(link-reveal:"used.")[= Guess all you can do, is wait. Thank you for playing through this Twine game I made! Well, I say game, it was more of an interactive set spoiler that you read through.
